South Jakarta the top spot for expats renting homes

Demand for rentals in South Jakarta is strong

South Jakarta, known locally as Jakarta Selatan, continues to be one of the most in-demand places for expatriates to live in the Indonesian capital. Kemang is a very popular South Jakarta neighbourhood for overseas employees plying their trade in Jakarta, thanks to its close proximity to international schools and retail centres such as Lippo Mall Kemang.

Research from Colliers International Indonesia shows that more expatriates started renting houses in South Jakarta during the second half of 2017 with the activity not limited to the Kemang district. Demand for rental properties in Cipete, Cilandak, Pondok Indah and Kebayoran Baru all rose last year.

“The rising number of expats who rent houses in Indonesia is due to expansion plans of manufacturing and automotive companies,” Ferry Salanto, senior associate director at Colliers International Indonesia, stated. “South Jakarta remains the most popular choice for foreign workers in the Greater Jakarta region in terms of housing because this area has all the facilities that are needed by expats, such as international schools, luxurious shopping malls and golf clubs.”

Where to live in South Jakarta

Condominium units, multi-bedroom apartments and detached houses can all be found in South Jakarta. Sizes and prices do vary, but usually there is something to meet your needs and budget.

For example, if you’re single, a one-bedroom condo will likely be enough. At Apartment Nifarro Park, a furnished unit on the seventh floor is available to rent for IDR 3.5 million (USD 263) per month. The building itself has a gym and a food court and is also close to Pasar Minggu Baru Station.

Units for rent at 1-Park Avenue have three-bedrooms and two-bathrooms

If you prefer a house, you can rent a delightful three-bedroom, two-bedroom home on Pinang Merah VI for IDR 15 million (USD 1,130) per month. The 150-square metre property is two storeys and contains a maid room as well.
Those searching for something more luxurious may opt for an apartment in 1-Park Avenue. Rents for a three-bedroom, two-bathroom unit start at IDR 37,500,000 (USD 2,825) and come fully furnished. The building itself has some great views along with space for parking.
